Plastering External Walls

Plastering External Walls – Skud, Scratch and Finish Coat
The scud coat is essential as it acts as a key for the subsequent scratch coat when plastering external walls, making sure the integrity of the finished render. This coat is then paired with a scratcher to assist the adhesion of the next coat. Traditional renders should be applied in 2 coats. The first coat should not exceed 15mm thickness and the second coat should be 5-7mm.

Nap Finish
Nap finish is a sand and cement finish for plastering external walls. The nap finish is implemented over three steps: scud, scratch and float. The very last coat in this finish is made from sand, cement and lime. Nap and sponge External plaster must be combined in the share of three or four components sand to at least one of cement.

Quoin Stones
Paddy Kelly Plastering have perfected creating Quoin stones because of their long experience on making it. Quoin Stones are used on a stone or brick building. All quoins are 460mm on the long and 230mm wide. We typically make Quoins in ordinary cement colour but they can be made in sand stone effect or any colour the customer requires.
